Keisha Rae Witherspoon (b. 1980, Miami; lives in South Florida)
Drawing on literary excerpts from the book “Black Quantum Futurism: Theory and Practice,” 1968 < 2018 > 2068 is a musing on cyclical and linear time theory, experienced violence, and the spectre of unremembered memories and trauma.
Keisha Rae Witherspoon is a Miami-born filmmaker whose work elevates unseen, unheralded black life and concern for the natural environment. Her most recent short film T, a doc-style narrative set in Miami, screened at Sundance Film Festival, BlackStar Film Festival and Berlinale, where it won the 2020 Golden Bear for best short film. Her works are currently streaming on The Criterion Channel. Keisha is a 2022 USA Fellow, a Sundance Institute fellow, and was one of Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film” in 2020. She is co-founder and former creative director of Third Horizon Film Festival. Keisha is currently working on her feature-length directorial debut.
