Patssi Valdez’s experimental, performative photography confronts stereotypes of Chicano communities and women. In the 1980’s she highlighted unique forms of fashion and beauty through the creative lens of that decade. For Hot Pink, Valdez provided costumes and make-up to two young men and one young woman who perform in an unscripted scenario of play, aggressive gender roles, and seduction that upends the expectations of the artist’s social group.

La práctica artística de fotografía experimental y performativa de Patssi Valdez confronta los estereotipos de las mujeres y de las comunidades chicanas. Durante los años ochenta, Valdez destacó formas particulares de la moda y la belleza a través del lente creativo de esa década. Para Hot Pink, Valdez proporcionó vestuario y maquillaje a dos jóvenes hombres y una joven mujer para que actuaran escenas improvisadas de juego, roles de género agresivos y seducción, desafiando las expectativas del grupo social de la artista.
