Frances Salomé España is an experimental filmmaker who created Sacred Confessions and Holy Smoke … The Confessions Trilogy as a series of films that explore spirituality, femininity, and power. Her conceptual approach rejects linearity, cultivates a fragmented and imaginative narrative, and intersects personal and collective memories. Nepantla explores poetic and conceptual notions of nepantla (a concept of “in-betweenness”) and the displacement and violence endured by Xicanx people.
